We have two 5-6 hour walks that are marked, and we also supply a map which shows a GPS trail.
THE FAR SIDE WALK: 17km loop.
The Far Side walk includes a half-way-stop lunch at the cottage of Linda and Garry. Their cottage is perched 300m above the Tora coast, be prepared to be charmed!
The trail starts at the Riversdale homestead and heads east. For 1.5kms it follows and criss-crosses the Wether Ridge creek then heads up a ridge to the top where you enter The Far Side.
Much of the walk is through bush, sometimes on tracks and sometimes on cattle trails, grassy flats, and open ridges.
THE GREEN CATHEDRAL WALK: 16km loop
For 6kms it heads north-west along the north side of the Castle and Rough rivers. After 5kms passing through The Green Cathedral, Which is a mature stand of mixed Podocarp, Hinau, Titoki, Rewarewa (Tree Honey suckle) and other trees.
The trail then climbs an open ridge to nearly 400m, before descending into the Castle river, following the south bank home.
Much of the trail along the sides of the rivers are cattle trails winding through trees and grassy flats.
The Green Cathedral walk fits in well with a stay at the Castle hut. See the 'Accommodation' page for more information.
